Our island, month by month

When to visit Elba

Giovanni lives in Marina di Campo all year round: here is what the island is really like, season by season, with no exaggeration.

Almost every guest asks us the same question: "when is the best time to visit Elba?". The honest answer is that it depends on what you are looking for — warm sea, hiking trails, quiet, or village life. This page gives you the full picture, month by month.

The numbers below are indicative averages: island weather changes quickly, and a week in May can feel like high summer. If in doubt, write to us and Giovanni will tell you what it is really like at that moment.

The three seasons of our homes

Spring — late April to June

Our homes open in the last week of April, when the island is at its greenest. May belongs to the trails and to unhurried villages; in June the sea takes centre stage while the beaches are still calm. Early-season rates are among the most convenient of the year.

Summer — July and August

Classic Elba: mornings on the beach a short walk from home, long lunches, evenings in the village of Marina di Campo. July is lively, August is the peak — hot, animated, with weeks selling out months ahead. If you are aiming for August, write to us well in advance.

Autumn — September to mid-November

September is our heartfelt recommendation: still-warm water, soft light, and an island that breathes again. October is perfect for hiking and the grape harvest; in mid-November the homes close and Elba returns to its inhabitants, ourselves included.

Frequently asked questions about timing

What is the best month for swimming on Elba?

For swimming, mid-June to late September: the water goes from around 22 °C in June to 25 °C in August and stays pleasant into early October. If you want warm sea and calm beaches, September is our first choice.

When is a week on Elba cheapest?

At the start and end of the season: from late April to mid-June and from late September to November our rates are in the lowest bands of the year. You will find the full calendar on the rates page.

Can you swim in May or October?

Yes, if you do not mind fresher water: the sea is around 18 °C in May and 20–21 °C in October. On sunny days the beach is still delightful even just for sunbathing.

Is Elba too crowded in August?

It is the liveliest month, no point denying it: full beaches and a village buzzing late into the night. The Marina di Campo beach is long, though, and there is always room; the key is booking your home and ferry well in advance.

When are the Diadema di Venere homes open?

In 2026: Scalinate from 25 April to 15 November, Fornaci from 25 April to 14 November, Montecristo from 26 April to 15 November. Scalinate takes stays from 3 nights with check-in on any day; Fornaci and Montecristo full weeks (Saturday→Saturday and Sunday→Sunday).
