Our homes take dogs
Gloria and Giovanni look after three houses in Marina di Campo, and dogs are welcome in all three without a supplement. Scalinate is on the second floor of a building in the old centre with a narrow staircase, so we ask for small or medium dogs there. Fornaci and Montecristo have no size limit.

Beaches where dogs can go
Elba has several, and these are the ones we send guests to. One caveat worth reading: what is allowed on any given beach is set by an ordinance the comune reissues each season, so the hours and the stretches move. Ask us the week before you travel and we will tell you what this year's actually says.
- Marina di Campo, our own beach, steps from all three houses. In high summer dogs are limited to early morning and evening, and to the free stretches rather than the equipped ones; out of season it is far more relaxed.
- Spiaggia delle Tombe, about ten minutes by car — sand and rock, on the lead, away from the equipped area.
- Lacona, roughly twenty minutes south — long and open, with room to walk.
- Cala dei Frati at Capo d'Enfola, about half an hour across the island — small sheltered coves, the one to pick on a day with a southerly.
Getting here with a dog
The only way onto Elba with a dog is the ferry from Piombino to Portoferraio, about an hour. Blu Navy, Moby and Toremar all carry dogs; each sets its own small per-dog fare, which you pay when you book the crossing. Small dogs travel in a carrier or in your arms, larger ones on a lead on the outside decks — Italian rules ask you to have a muzzle with you.

What we put in the house
At all three, if you tell us the dog is coming:
- Water and food bowls
- A big towel for after the beach
- The beaches and the restaurants we can currently vouch for — we send that list before you travel, because it changes
- The number of the vet in Marina di Campo and the one in Portoferraio, left in the house
- Bed, lead and food: bring your own
What people ask us
Is there a supplement for the dog?
No. The weekly rate is the same with or without. We do ask that the dog is used to being indoors, and that you cover anything that gets damaged.
How many dogs, and what size?
Up to two per stay without discussion; more than that, ask us. No size limit at Fornaci or Montecristo. Scalinate is a second-floor apartment in a historic building with a narrow staircase, so small and medium dogs only there — for a big dog we would point you at the other two.
Can we leave the dog alone in the house?
For a couple of hours, yes, if it settles on its own — all three houses have close neighbours. For a whole day out it is worth planning ahead: tell us and we will see what we can suggest.
