Frequently asked questions
How long is the ferry from Piombino to Elba?
About 60 minutes to Portoferraio. In high season ferries depart every 30-60 minutes from 5:30 am to 11 pm with Blu Navy, Moby and Toremar.
Which port is best for Marina di Campo?
Portoferraio. From there Marina di Campo is about 12 km (20-minute scenic drive).
Should I bring a car to Elba?
Yes, especially if you're staying outside the main centres. Ferries carry cars and motorbikes. Scooters and bikes can also be rented locally if you prefer.
Can I fly to Elba?
Yes — Marina di Campo airport (EBA) has seasonal flights from Pisa, Milan-Linate, Friedrichshafen and other European hubs. Routes change yearly; check with the airline directly.
Do Diadema di Venere guests get a ferry discount?
Yes, we have a partnership with Blu Navy. The discount code is sent by email right after your booking is confirmed.
Can you reach Elba by train?
Yes. The reference station is Campiglia Marittima, on the Genoa–Pisa–Rome line: from there a regional train or bus takes you to Piombino Marittima, right at the ferry port. Once in Portoferraio, a taxi or rental car is the practical way to Marina di Campo.
When should I book the ferry?
For July and August — especially with a car and at weekends — book a few weeks ahead: the mid-day crossings sell out first. In the rest of the season you will usually find space even last-minute.
Are there alternatives to the port of Portoferraio?
Yes: Toremar also serves Rio Marina and Cavo on the east coast, with a shorter crossing. From there, though, Marina di Campo is about a 40-minute drive, so for our homes Portoferraio remains the most convenient port.
