The terraced garden
The garden unfolds on multiple levels toward the sea: the dining area in the shade of pines, the stone barbecue, the outdoor shower. Above, the panoramic terrace with the silhouette of Montecristo on the horizon — when the scirocco blows, it feels close enough to touch.
The garden
Rosemary, lavender, horizon
A fragrant Mediterranean garden, outdoor dining table under the pines, barbecue. Mornings begin here, with coffee and birdsong.

The story
Alexandre Dumas
The Count of Monte Cristo · 1844
From this window, on clear days, you can make out the island of Montecristo on the horizon — silent, inaccessible, legendary. It was that mysterious silhouette that inspired Alexandre Dumas when he wrote his masterpiece: an island of hidden treasures, of revenge and redemption, of destinies fulfilled far from the world. A strict nature reserve since 1971, today the island is off-limits: you can only look.
The villa itself is hidden — not in the village, but inside the pine grove of Marina di Campo, the wood of maritime pines planted in the 1930s as a natural windbreak. This is where the most discreet houses on Elba stand: a minute from the beach, but inside the shade, the silence, that one degree cooler.
“Attendez et espérez”
Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo
«Wait and hope.» The Count's watchword becomes, here, a philosophy of staying. Behind the villa begins the Via dei Rosmarini: a path that runs above the eastern coast of the gulf, through rosemary bushes and helichrysum, scents that settle into your clothes. It leads to two quiet beaches — Cala dell'Ischia, a small sheltered cove, and further on La Fonza, sand and pebbles brushed by the wind. From Villa Montecristo you set off in the morning with a light backpack and come back in the afternoon. This is how time works here.
